Australian Melaleuca Oil

Nature's Antiseptic

What is Melaleuca (Tea Tree) Oil?

It’s likely that you’ve heard of melaleuca oil, also known as tea tree oil, but have you heard of its antiseptic[1] and healing properties? Humans have used tea tree oil for thousands of years for the management of a variety of skin ailments such as minor burns, wounds, abrasions and insect bites and stings.

Today, tea tree oil is used in hundreds of products that take advantage of its natural antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.

Traditional Use of Melaleuca (Tea Tree) Oil

Indigenous Australians of the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales first used crushed tea tree leaves and a binding mud mixture to create healing compresses for a variety of wounds and skin problems. In the 19th century English settlers began copying this practice, putting their own spin on it by boiling and distilling the leaves to make a potent oil which we still use today. Research throughout the last few centuries has shown the benefits of melaleuca oil, proving that Indigenous Australians certainly knew what they were doing.
